Shan Ogdemli

My art reflects my beliefs about the nature of the Universe and the interconnectedness of all things. I’m inspired by light, color and energy, patterns from biology, geometry and physics, by the Earth and Cosmos and by the merging of spirituality and science. I believe there are unseen patterns and structures within the energetic field that surrounds, connects and influences everything in existence across multiple dimensions. My aim as an artist is to capture the essence of those unseen structures and bring them forth into the visible physical world as light, color and form. I seek to transmit a sense of the divine order and consciousness that permeates all of existence. I’m fascinated by such things as the Fibonacci mathematical sequence expressed in nature, supernova explosions and other wonders of the cosmos, the geometry of sound made visible, the patterns on living organisms and by the ever changing play of light, shadow and color across the earth, skies and oceans. I primarily work in acrylic, mixed with acrylic mediums and diatomaceous earth to create heavily textured surfaces with expressive brush strokes adding movement, energy and an organic quality. Color and the vibrational and emotional effect it has on the viewer is an important part of my work, with harmonic and complementary color compositions meticulously built from several layers of paint. I also create detailed digital color drawings that incorporate mathematical and organic patterns from nature.

Shan Ogdemli was born in Berkeley, CA to a multi-national, creative family. Early on they moved to Thailand, then Hong Kong, settling in Hawaii where Shan finished high school. The family traveled extensively throughout Asia and Europe due to her parents’ Asian art business. This early exposure to art, music, diverse cultures and world religions helped shape Shan’s broad world view, deep spirituality and reverence for nature. She was especially influenced by the colorful flora and fauna of Thailand and Hawaii, as well as Buddhist artistic traditions. Shan left Hawaii to attend Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, graduating with honors and a full scholarship. After college Shan and husband, Daniel Feldman, founded an award-winning graphic design, illustration and art licensing studio in Los Angeles. The studio grew to a staff of 10, designing for clients such as Guess for Men, Paper Moon Graphics, the NFL, Disney and Hallmark. Their licensing program featured Shan’s art on hundreds of products sold globally, notably in several stores in Japan devoted exclusively to her licensed products. Despite early successes in the commercial world, Shan’s true passion had always been creating her own fine art, which she found time for whenever she could. In 2022 after the kids had grown up, Shan and Daniel sold their house and business and moved to beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico, where Shan set up her home studio and has since been happily focusing full time on creating her art.
