The landscape has captured my attention as an artist for years. The emotion triggered by a special sighting is usually the beginning of a new painting series. Once the image has burned into my brain, I start the 1st painting. All paintings are washed in and then ready to be enriched by many layers of paint, building a tight pulse of color relationships to heighten the viewer’s physiological response to each image. I continue to explore ways of creating an “other world” sense of place in each one of my paintings. I also make small sculptures from wire and found metal. Subjects include animals, insects and plants doing silly things.

I was born and raised in Greeneville, Tennessee. In 1976, I earned my BFA in Painting and Printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University, and in 1980, my MFA in Painting at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. In 1981, I moved to Santa Fe, then Albuquerque, New Mexico and currently live in Mesilla, New Mexico. In addition to working as a professional studio artist for 40 years, painting landscapes and making small wire sculptures, I have taught Studio Art and History of Women Artists classes, taught studio art classes at community colleges in the San Diego vicinity, juried numerous art competitions and was Founding Owner/Director of Coleman Gallery in Albuquerque for 25 years promoting mostly abstract art by New Mexico artists. My artwork is in private and public collections. In Mesilla, I continue working in the studio and maintain a charming in-house gallery to showcase my art.
