Artist Statement P.K. Williams I have a multi-faceted art practice in which I use mixed media to explore new possibilities for familiar subject matter. While I completely admire people who do realistic work; this is not my goal. I enjoy creating something brand new even if I use a known subject. I like to include texture, whether it be the visual hint of texture or touchable texture. Creating unique papers using a variety of techniques is half the fun. In addition to created papers I also include painting or drawing in my pieces. I take extreme pleasure in using “bits and pieces” of my created papers whether it be stained papers, painted papers or even prints to create my mixed media collages. The final piece looks nothing like the fragments from which it emerged. This, for me, is very exciting because it is a challenge to marry several oddments, which are worlds apart from each other, to create a pleasing composition which becomes unified in a completely new form. It is my hope that my interpretation and presentation of a variety of subjects allows for people to create their own connections to my work. If I accomplish that, I am successful in my endeavors.

Artist Bio P.K. Williams I am a mixed media artist working and residing in Placitas, New Mexico. I attended the University of Texas at El Paso and received a master’s degree in Elementary Education. While in college I was torn between a career in education or an art career. I finally decided on the “safer” career and chose to teach, using my art background whenever I could. I figured I could work on my art in my spare time. Little did I know there would be no spare time! In 2012 I had a chance to have the art career I had always dreamed of because my husband and I relocated to New Mexico, and I left my teaching job. It was the perfect opportunity to pursue a new career. I have shown my work in three different galleries in Albuquerque, one of which I co-directed. I have won awards locally and in Colorado, California, and Texas. At the end of February 2020, I had my work featured on the cover of the local Alibi publication to celebrate Women’s Month. My most recent solo exhibition was titled, Roots to Routes and was shown at the Open Space Visitor Center in Albuquerque. (October thru December 2025) It included over 60 pieces of mixed media work. I am a member of New Mexico Women in the Arts, the Rio Grande Art Association, the Collage Artists of America, the National Collage Society, and a signature member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society.
