Mokha Laget

My work explores the intersection of geometry, perception and space through shaped canvases that defy traditional boundaries. I construct visual paradoxes using forced perspectives, warped planes and saturated color, creating environments that are at once believable and impossible. These pieces serve as laboratories for investigating the interplay of light, color and form. Liberated from rectangular constraints, they actively engage with their architectural surroundings, blurring the line between artwork and space. Drawing on diverse art historical references, from the Renaissance perspective to Color Field painting, I push beyond established conventions. My practice has expanded into interdisciplinary territory, particularly music, where I use technology to animate and project static works into dynamic, multi-sensory experiences. Ultimately, my art challenges viewers to recalibrate their perceptions, offering new ways to process visual information and understand spatial relationships. It invites a deeper exploration of how we construct meaning from what we see, creating a dialogue between the work, the viewer and the space they inhabit.

Mokha Laget is an international artist known for innovative geometric abstractions on shaped canvases. Her work explores spatial ambiguity and perceptual paradoxes through a fusion of color, form and architectural sensibility. With 100 + exhibitions (30 solo), Laget’s works are held in public collections worldwide. Her installation Watershed III is on loan at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Her painting “Solar Offset” was recently acquired by the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. Accolades include a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant (2019) and residencies at American Academy, Rome, Italy; Artist-in-Residence, Vladem Contemporary, Santa Fe; Mass MoCA, Massachusetts; Millay Arts, New York; and Golden Foundation, New York.
