Statement

With a sensitivity to thread, texture, and fiber-based materials, my work explores human connection and the quiet tension between chaos and harmony. I've developed an artistic language informed by nature’s rhythms and an underlying sense of interconnectedness. In this recent body of work, porcelain and glass become a central material, extending my fiber-based practice through its shared qualities of fragility, structure, and resilience. My abstract forms, shaped by travel and personal experience, invite reflection on impermanence, memory, and the beauty found in imperfection. My installation work continues to be an important part of my practice.

Bio

A BFA graduate in Fibers from Wayne State University, Marianne has lived in New Mexico since 2011. She makes her home in Albuquerque, where she maintains a studio at the Harwood Art Center. Her work centers on deeply personal explorations of loss and survival, examining the intricate emotional and physical responses that emerge in moments of vulnerability. Her practice combines material sensitivity with emotionally resonant narratives. In 2025, her piece ‘Don’t 'Let Them See You Cry' was included in the inaugural New Mexico Women in the Arts exhibition ‘New City of Ladies’ at the Turner Carroll Gallery in Santa Fe. Continuing this body of work, her installation ‘Between Heaven and Earth’ will be shown from late March through June of 2026 as part of the New Mexico Museum of Art - Vladem Contemporary’s Window Box Project.
