Margaret Fitzgerald

Painting is a means for me to say something. It’s a way to talk about struggle and survival and to process information. I see my paintings as self-portraits, they reflect what’s going on currently, filtered and arranged through my thoughts and feelings. They are a mixture of the ebb and flow of my inner life and the social and political events of the outside world. These paintings focus on relationships and the complex and nuanced interconnection and interdependence of things. With every painting, I start with a sense of uncharted territory. The excitement of painting is moving forward with an idea, feeling what I want to say and how I want to say it.

Margaret Holman Fitzgerald was born in London, England. She grew up in Japan and the United States. She studied fine art and art history in New York City at the School of Visual Arts and the Art Students League. She also studied at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and received a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of New Mexico. Margaret has enjoyed solo shows in New York City, San Francisco and New Mexico. Her work is in private and corporate collections across the United States and abroad.
