Statement

A maker of containers all of my life in clay, at this point my vessels are simply sculptural forms. Inspired by natural forms, they become vehicles for the exploration of ideas of volume, negative/positive space, movement in three dimensions and complex surface. I imagine that these pots might have been unearthed in an archeological dig somewhere, giving rise to questions about ancient cultures.

Bio

Growing up in Santa Fe, I was always intrigued by the art world here and the creative folks who made it. I majored in art in college and followed up with three years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Arequipa, Peru. After a few semesters of ceramics classes at Ohio University, I embarked on my career as a studio potter, producing work for the wholesale market beginning in 1969. My return to Santa Fe in 1980 marked the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration with my husband, Frank Willett, in several clay adventures. We owned and managed Santa Fe Pottery on historic Guadalupe Street, where we represented the work of over eighty craftspeople, mostly clay artists and potters. Selling Santa Fe Pottery in 2003 gave me the opportunity to launch my own work in hand-built and saggar-fired ceramics.
