I am a printmaker and an observer of markings, shapes and contours. My work often references the interplay between line and volume. I find my reductionist point of view both satisfying and expressive. While my approach is spontaneous, I do give a lot of thought as to how I will create the image. One of the challenges is the ability to make expressive marks while, at the same time, respecting personal and environmental safety. In that vein, I use non-toxic inks and solvents as well as upcycled matrices such as mat board and paper beverage containers. We live in a fast-paced and cluttered world. My focus on the barebones gives me, and viewers, moments of respite from the noise and opportunities for mindfulness.

My high school teachers encouraged me to apply to art school however, I also liked science. The short story is I went to the University of Massachusetts where I earned a B.S. in biology. Some years later, I completed a Ph.D. in microbiology at UNM. Although retired from academia, I am an active freelance writer. So yes, I have come full circle. I am a printmaker, have a home studio, and a Tackach press too! My work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the USA, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. One highlight is being juried into a group show at the Smithsonian Institute Ripley Gallery. I have received two Albuquerque 1% for the Arts Awards and an Albert Pierce Foundation grant to fund Three Wishes – an installation that documents the quiet wishes that women must put aside to overcome hardships and responsibilities. I have enjoyed art residencies in Berlin, Germany, Venice, Italy and San Francisco, CA. I have shown at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, CT, participated in several traveling shows with Boston Printmakers, and several international Open Press Project exchanges. I am an associate member of Remarque Print Workshop, located in ABQ, NM. I currently teach at Off Center, an “Art Hive” that provides free access to art supplies and space. Some years ago, I hosted a weekly art experience for people living with dementia. I am in the process of creating STEAM activities that art and science teachers can use.
