My latest pieces began after a failed trip to France, and the destruction of Roe vs. Wade. As a woman, injustice raged, which gave birth to this collection. The figures are a continuum of ancient fertility goddesses, totems, spiritual creatures—beacons needed for today’s world and the struggle against misogyny and madness. The sense that the majority of humans walk through their lives blinded, ie, blindfolded, and puppets to the authoritarians, this collection riffs off of those feelings. Many of the figures are masked, blindfolded, their forms reminiscent of puppets. Each is embellished with a necklace of vials containing verses of existential poetry and handmade beads. Some are hideous, some evoke hope; it’s a complex world. I am drawn to this classical, whimsical world as I struggle to find my bearings. Finding solace in the past helps me define the future, and my creatures are an attempt to find this balance in these existential times.

A native Santa Barbaran, I completed the majority of my art education at the University of California, Santa Barbara, studying painting and then graphic design. I then moved to Manhattan, where I worked and established my design studio, which I retired from in 2020. Moves to Connecticut, then Delaware, began an additional career as an instructor at Delaware Art and Design, where I worked with CE and degree students in both graphics and painting before venturing out as a private painting instructor. In 2012, I began leading painting workshops in the South of France. In 2016, I moved, with my partner, to Santa Fe and established myself in several Canyon Road Galleries, now defunct, and various other galleries around the Southwest and London. Presently I am holed up in my studio, creating my figures, studying piano, cooking, walking my corgi, enjoying the garden, and traveling with my husband.
