Statement

The beauty and quirkiness of what surrounds us inspires me to make photographs. My work is a practice of observation, where I look for, and hope to create moments of peace and feelings of place.

Bio

I have always been interested in recording the world around me. I am interested in how places and objects transform as time goes by. I hope to capture these continuing changes in landscape, architecture and objects. My intention is to tell a story with my photographs, to convey a feeling, or to invoke a sense of place. I shoot with a digital camera and I print my own images in my studio in Santa Fe. I also work with Cyanotype and Gum Printing. I do most of my shooting on the road whether that is a few miles out of town or in another county. I often try to pinpoint what moves me to stop and make a photograph, but I am not always sure what that is until I make the image. There is no better feeling for me than returning from a picture drive with images I can’t wait to print. I received my BFA from UNM in 1979. Then to New York City to begin a career in film, producing and directing Industrial films for business, fashion, educational and documentary clients. I have two children who led me into the field of education and into a hiatus from film making. We returned to New Mexico in 2007 and I returned to Photography. I have exhibited in Santa Fe, Brooklyn, Arizona, Massachusetts, Budapest, the 2020 Rocky Mountain Biennial in Fort Collins. I have work in private collections in New York, Austin, Santa Fe, Boston, Los Angeles and a museum soon to open outside of Austin. I have been published in Vogue and my book Billboards is in the Amon Carter Museum Library.
