My work is rooted in a lifelong relationship with nature and an ongoing curiosity about perception. In my early years I learned to find solace and clarity in the natural world. Those continue to inform how I approach painting—as a way to slow down, observe, and connect to the world around me. My work with children has helped me understand that each of us has a unique and valuable perspective. This understanding shapes my work, encouraging me to look beyond surface appearances and consider emotional tone, subtle shifts, and quiet complexity. Whether painting landscapes or other subjects, I aim to create work that feels contemplative and open-ended, inviting viewers to bring their own perceptions and experiences into the space of the painting.

Laura A. Flores is a contemporary painter whose work is shaped by a lifelong connection to nature and an interest in how individual perception influences experience. Raised on the coast of Virginia and spending her teenage years in Oregon, she developed a deep appreciation for diverse landscapes and the quiet, grounding presence of the natural world. Later in life, her role as a mother to a neurodivergent child further expanded her awareness of the complexity and richness of human perception. This sensitivity informs her approach to painting, whether she is working with landscapes or other subjects. Through subtle shifts in color, light, and mood, Flores seeks to convey not just what is seen, but how it is felt—inviting viewers to slow down and engage with the world from a more reflective, nuanced perspective.
