Linda Armantrout

Santa Fe, NM

Statement

Living and painting in Santa Fe, I am inspired daily by the light, the beauty, and the wildlife. My painting process is my search for clarity about life and transitions. I often use animal images as mythical or mystical statements. Each day begins with grounding in silence and listening for guidance. I am an oil painter using color, shape, and gesture to express what is in my heart. When a viewer has an experience with the images, I am thrilled to have shared a connection.

Bio

Linda Armantrout’s paintings invite us into a world where animals, symbols, and color become quiet messengers of connection. Her figures feel both tender and watchful, suspended in moments that are intimate, and deeply human. Each work is a meditation on relationship—between beings, between forms, between seen and unseen. _ Stephen Parise, Big Happy Gallery. Painting professionally for over 3 decades, Linda’s paintings reflect her love of color to communicate emotional content. The Santa Fe Studio, where Linda creates her art, faces the Ortiz Mountains and Sandia Peak. She is inspired daily by the landscape, birds, and wildlife of New Mexico. Linda began drawing as a child, and she always knew she would be an artist. Her continuing art journey includes a lifetime of learning and studying art history. After receiving a studio art degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she moved to Colorado. There she continued to learn from teachers whose lineage included Hans Hofmann, Maitland Graves, and Monet (Charles Hawthorne). Linda taught art basics and color theory for 2 decades at Armantrout Studio and Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design. The encouragement of curators, gallerists, and artists continues to support the artist’s inquiry and her movement from the known to the edge of the unknown. Linda is happily associated with Big Happy Gallery in Santa Fe. (Portrait credit Daniel Quat Photography).
