Shawn Turung

I have always explored media for art making. For me, new materials seed new pathways into concepts, forming epiphanies which become artworks. My objective works embrace allegorical storytelling, using personal iconography, which I have been developing since the mid 80's. I reference broad subjects such as; Love and War / Chaos / Personal Battles / Hope, stewing an infinite array of Human Condition related topics. Non objective works have been based in rhythmic linear compositions and topographical observations. Recently, (last 10 yrs), I have combined my objective with non objective, which gave birth to the Totem series in 2016. Combining all aspects of my portfolios has allowed for challenging my ideas of art, as well as, accepting limitless possibilities for new explorations. Earlier in my college career, I turned away from traditional art classes and submerged into 4-D studies which included; Kinetic sculpture, neon, built electronic circuitry, computers graphics, video and 16MM film. I stumbled into a performance art class, and it was there I accepted the chaos.

Shawn Turung is an artist and art restoration professional. Her fine art focus comprises mixed media works that combine found/upcycled materials with painting and sculptural elements. The subject matter ranges from contemporary topographical and linear compositions to allegorical storytelling laden with personal iconography. Her interest in art restoration began while studying at the Art Institute of Chicago (BFA), as a summer intern for a restoration company with a focus on architectural elements within historic buildings in downtown Chicago. This practice translated into a small business in Houston, TX, with origins in architectural finishing, then expanding into regional historic restoration projects, museum exhibits and product design, from 1991-2002. Shawn relocated to New Mexico in the winter of 2001, with a renewed focus on fine art studio practice and gallery exhibitions. Shawn connected with the city of Albuquerque in 2008-9, doing work on historic restoration projects to include the KiMo theater and Gustave Baumann fireplace. Milagro Fine Art Services was formally established in 2011. Shawn continues historic and fine art restoration and conservation work with Bernalillo County Public Art, City of Albuquerque Public Art, City of Santa Fe, and the Albuquerque International Sunport Art Collection, along with private and estate collections. Shawn’s fine artworks have been exhibited regionally and nationally, and are included in public and private collections.
