Statement

I am fortunate to have a fresh, childlike experience with New Mexico. I once only viewed red earth as a visitor but now as a mature artist I can explore and create in this magical land where I have lived for seven years. My work has taken on new dimensions including learning to weld which adds strength and rustic beauty to my mosaic sculptures. I am attracted to projects that offer the opportunity for community participation, involving people who would not otherwise be a part of public art.

Bio

Julie Deery is a mosaic artist and welder who also loves to sing. She enjoys combining elements of many disciplines while creating her outdoor sculptures. After decades of teaching and working with community art organizations on the East Coast, she has settled in the quiet village of Galisteo. Her work is in private collections, in schools, and on public walls including WHYY in Philadelphia and a large community mural on the Santa Fe Rail trail. She also sells and exhibits at the Abiquiu Inn Sculpture Garden.
